For the last two weeks, we have been working almost entirely on poetry. We have done SOAPSTone, looked at symbolism, worked with similes and metaphors, and even written our own poetry! Today's blog is to share your thoughts about the work we have been doing to this point on poetry.
YOUR TASK:
Write at LEAST ONE blog entry.
The entry should include:
A. The title of one poem/song that includes an instance of symbolism, a simile, or a metaphor.
B. The line(s) or quote from the piece that include the symbolism, simile, or metaphor.
C. A 1 sentence explanation of why you believe the quote is what you say it is (I.E: why is it a simile?)
D. A 4+ sentence explanation of how the symbolism, simile, or metaphor affects the reader or listener.

SONG: "Everthing to Me" by Monica
LINE: "Boy if you ever left my,
My side,
It'd be like taking the sun from
The sky
EXPLAIN: This is a simile because it's comparing a girl that can't live without her lover with the sun that's taking from the sky.
With this simile in the song it helps the reader to understand how much the writer is in love. That the writer she couldn't live withour her man by her side. Just like the sun being taken from the sky would be a situation where people probably can't live without
my love is like a roller coaster because it goes up and down.
I know this is a similie because it uses like or as.
This similie affects readers or listeners because it helps you to visualize and also leaves a person wondering why did i use this comparsion
A.Song "Everyday is Halloween" by lil wayne
B."They Can Not See Me, They Are Like Stevie"
C.explain:this line is a simile because it compares peoples vision to steve wonders(steve wonder is blind). I know it is a simile and not a metaphor because it uses the word "like."
D. this simile is describing how other people dont see him. Maybe they see him physically but he is so far ahead of them in life.when i read this i easily know what he is talking about because alot of people know stevie wonder and how he is blind.
The song i selected is "moving mountians" by Usher i picked this song because in it he uses alot of similies to describe the struggles in his relationship like in the chorus he says, "I know sorries, just wouldn't do it.
Her heart is obliterated, I'm tryna' travel through, But it's like moving mountains But I keep climbing and hoping things would change And the sky turns grey, and the water from the rain washes progress away. It's like moving mountains" hes describing how everytime he thinks there taking a turn for the better their accomplishements fall apart.
SONG: "lovesick" by Priscilla Renea
LINE: They keep on tellin me that I'm love sick
Well I guess I'll be sick forever
EXPLAIN: Lovesick from her point of view is she's madly in love and she blames it on the guy being as "awsome" as he is. She loves being in love with him because it makes her happy. She's stubborn with the fact that she's "lovesick" and she doesn't want it to change. So basically she's stuck on him and does'nt care what anybody says or does she's wit it.
My love is like a season it changes up.
I know this is a simile because it uses like to compare two unlike things.
This simile affects readers or listeners because it helps you to imagine. Also this helps you imagine the picture that gives simile. Simile can also put a question mark in your head and have you wondering what it can be- like if LOVE was a season.
SONG: "Can We Go" by Tynisha Kelly
LINE: "Tying Not to think of you is like a battle."
EXPLAIN: This is a simile because it uses the word "like". It compares her thoughts to a battle. She's trying not to think of "him" and to her its a hard, and she has to put all of her strength into iht just like trying to fight in a battle. To her its something that she cant win.
